What Is titanium dioxide for rubber?
Titanium dioxide (TiO₂) is one of the most popular functional ingredients in the rubber industry, which has been recognized as being able to provide brightness, transparency, and UV resistance to both natural and synthetic rubber compounds. Whereas TiO₂ is dominant as a reinforcement filling for black rubber applications, TiO₂ is used as the main color and function ingredient for light-coloured, white and pale rubber formulations – allowing producers to satisfy the needs of a wide variety of rubber products in terms of aesthetics and properties.
In rubber compounding, TiO₂ is incorporated during the mixing stage alongside other additives including vulcanizing agents, accelerators, plasticizers, and stabilizers. It has a fine grain size and a high refractive index that enables uniform distribution of colour and function over the entire rubber substrate, providing uniform colour growth and function in NR as well as synthesis systems comprising SBR, NBR (NBR), silicon rubber and EPDM.
Titania has been applied in a wide variety of applications in the field of rubber – from car sealing systems, conveyor belts, and industrial tubes to shoe soles, medical rubber parts, and consumer items – where brightness, lightness, and cleanliness are needed alongside reliable mechanical properties.
Key Advantages of Titanium Dioxide for Rubber
-
Superior Whiteness and Opacity TiO₂ provides the greatest brightness and transparency of any commercial white pigment, enabling the rubber makers to obtain a clear, clear aesthetic in light colored articles with optimal colour loading and minimum influence on the composition.
-
Effective UV StabilizationRubber compounds can be easily degraded by UV, resulting in surface cracking, staining, and loss of mechanical performance. Titanium dioxide is able to absorb UV rays and offer a protection shield that greatly prolongs the lifetime of white or light colored rubber products.
-
Broad Rubber System Compatibility Chemical compatibility between titanium dioxide and natural rubber as well as all main synthetic elastomers allows smooth integration into a standard rubber mixture process, while not negatively influencing the curing dynamics, tensile strength or elongation performance of the end compound.
-
Reinforcing Contribution to Compound PropertiesIn addition to pigment, fine particle TiO₂ adds a certain amount of strengthening to the rubber substrate, supporting an increase in tensile, tear, and abrasion-resistant properties — especially useful for the high requirements of industry and shoe rubber.
-
Heat and Chemical Stability During Processing Titanium dioxide retains its chemical integrity and colour stability at high temperatures that are encountered in curing and curing of the rubber, thus guaranteeing a uniform colour performance over the entire manufacturing period.

Achieving Consistent Whiteness in Vulcanized Compounds
UV and Ozone Degradation in Outdoor Applications
White and light colored rubber products that are exposed to sun and ozone are especially prone to deterioration of the surface, fracture, and mechanical properties – they need to have a precise optimum UV shielding capability to guarantee sufficient outdoor durability.

Our titanium dioxide for rubber Advantages
Exceptional Whiteness and Pigment Efficiency
Our Titania provides excellent clarity and transparency in a rubber mixture, which provides a desired brightness at optimal loading levels – a reduction in the total amount of paint consumed and a consistent, high-quality look required by light-coloured and white-rubber producers for all types of applications.
Proven UV Stability and Weather Resistance
Crafted for sustained outdoor use, our TiO₂ delivers strong UV absorption and photostabilizing properties in rubber compounds. It effectively safeguards rubber products from surface yellowing, cracking, and mechanical deterioration when exposed to sunlight, ozone, and severe environmental conditions.
Broad Compatibility Across Rubber Systems
Our TiO ₂ has been developed to provide a solid dispersion and chemical stability over a variety of vulcanizates - SBR, NBR, EPDM and silicon - with a smooth integration into a variety of vulcanizates without disturbing the cure dynamics or compromising the mechanical performance of the final rubber compound.
