The addition of chromium oxide — typically between 0.5% and 2% — fundamentally enhances the crystal structure of the corundum, resulting in a denser, tougher material with significantly improved mechanical and thermal properties.
The finished product exhibits a distinctive pink to ruby-red color, depending on the chromium oxide content, and achieves an Al₂O₃ purity typically above 97%.
